To commemorate a Lifetime of Service by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness Prince Philip, five special coins have been released on behalf of Ascension Island, the British Indian Ocean Territory, the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands and the Isle of Man.
The year 2011 celebrates not only the 85th Birthday of Queen Elizabeth II but also the 90th Birthday of Prince Philip. The couple married on 20th November 1947 at Westminster Abbey and have four children, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Family life has been an essential support to both the Queen and Prince Philip and the family usually spend Christmas together at Sandringham in Norfolk.
2012 will see the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II which commemorates sixty years as Monarch. Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in Westminster Abbey on 2nd June 1953 and during her reign she has seen Twelve Prime Ministers, Six Archbishops, Five Popes and Five Wars and Conflicts. She has attended 256 official overseas visits to over 129 different countries and she is the first British Monarch to visit China. She witnessed the Space landings in 1969 and has seen the rise of the digital age – television, mobile communication and internet.
- The Ascension Island coin features a central design of the initials ‘E & P’ within a decorative circular shape and depicting a crown above each letter.
- The British Indian Ocean Territory coin depicts a central design of the initials ‘E & P’ with a crown above the letters and features a border design of a cross and anchor.
- The Falkland Islands coin features a central design of the initials ‘E & P’. The image above the letter ‘E’ is taken from Her Majesty’s United Kingdom Arms of Dominion and the image above the letter ‘P’ is taken from the Duke of Edinburgh’s Coat of Arms.

Ten years ago in 2001, the horrific events of 11 September unfolded before the world’s eyes. In a spirit of respect for those who sadly lost their lives following these events, Pobjoy Mint is releasing on behalf of the British Virgin Islands Government a 10th Anniversary Memorial coin.
On that fateful morning in September 2001, 19 al-Queda terrorists hijacked four commercial jet airliners. Two of these planes were intentionally crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York, killing everyone on board and many others working in the buildings. The third airliner was crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, just outside Washington DC and the fourth plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania after some of its passengers and flight crew attempted to retake control of the plane. There were no survivors on any of the planes.
The site of the Twin Towers, known as Ground Zero, saw significant activity on 2nd May as New Yorkers reacted to the news of the death of Osama Bin Laden. This was followed by a visit from President Obama on 5th May.
The new coin from the British Virgin Islands depicts the Twin Towers against the Manhatten skyline with the date 11 September 2001 and a legend in a ribbon in the foreground stating simply ‘Lest We Forget’. Each coin has a special privy mark which shows a Dove of Peace with an olive branch in its beak and the number 10 underneath indicating the anniversary. The coin is a fitting memorial to those who lost their lives and also honours the emergency services personnel who risked their lives to save the victims of the attack. The obverse of the coin carries a fine effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS. |

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is lucky enough to have two Birthdays every year – her actual Birthday and her Official Birthday. To celebrate the fact that Her Majesty reaches her 85th Birthday this year, Pobjoy Mint is delighted to announce the release of a superb new coin on behalf of the British Virgin Islands Government.
Queen Elizabeth II reaches her real 85th Birthday on 21st April this year but her Official Birthday, which is the day on which the birthday of the monarch of the United Kingdom is officially celebrated rather than the actual day of the monarch’s birthday, does not occur until Saturday 11th June. The Monarch’s official Birthday has been celebrated in the United Kingdom with the Queens Birthday Parade (which includes the Trooping the Colour ceremony) since 1748 and is always held on the second Saturday in June. Since 1987, The Queen has attended in a carriage rather than riding, which she did before that on 36 occasions, riding side-saddle and wearing the uniform of the regiment whose colour was being trooped.
The design on the coin shows Her Majesty riding side-saddle at one such Trooping the Colour ceremony. In honour of the Queen’s 85th Birthday, a new obverse has been commissioned showing a unique double effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The first effigy is Mary Gillick’s portrait that first appeared on coins at the start of Her Majesty’s reign, while the second is an up-to-date effigy of Her Majesty. |

Pobjoy Mint is delighted to announce the release of a further coin in the Royal Wedding Collection. This new coin is issued on behalf of the British Virgin Islands Government.
The official announcement was made by Clarence House on 16th November last year advising that His Royal Highness Prince William had become engaged to his girlfriend Catherine Middleton. The couple had met at the University of St Andrews while they were both studying there.
The Wedding itself, which takes place on 29th April, is attracting interest from many nations and the event itself is expected to be watched by billions of people, not only those lining the streets of London to wish the couple luck as they travel to and from Westminster Abbey, but also on televisions all over the world.
Approved by both Buckingham Palace and Clarence House, the design on the coin features a finely sculpted portrait of the Royal Couple based on the press conference at St James’ Palace on the day of the announcement and shows Catherine displaying her engagement ring which is the same ring that Prince Charles used to propose to Diana, Princess of Wales.

This year marks the 70th Anniversary of the formation of what is now the Royal Air Force Search and Rescue Force and (SARF) to commemorate the event Pobjoy Mint is releasing a new coin on behalf of the Falkland Islands Government which has been approved by the Force.
During the early stages of the Battle of Britain 220 aircrew were killed or went missing over the English Channel and it was soon realised that the RAF could not afford to lose pilots who ditched to the sea. As a result, acting on the instructions from Air Chief Marshal Sir Charles Portal, the Directorate of Air Sea Rescue (ASR) was formed and took up its duties in February. Prior to this rescues were ad hoc affairs involving a search by operational aircraft from the crews own unit who then attempted to divert any surface craft in the vicinity to the aircrew in distress.
Various marine craft were used to recover crews from the sea; RNLI lifeboats, Royal Navy motor launches, torpedo recovery and barrage balloon boats. The RAF Marine Craft Branch which formed in 1918 had high speed RAF Sea Place tenders which were further developed between the wars at RAF Mount Batten; involving the enigmatic Aircraftsman Shaw, better known as Colonel T E Lawrence of Arabia. The work culminated in the 100 series High Speed Launch (HSL) used extensively through the war years. The number of airmen rescued, once the directorate had formed, steadily increased and during the war years alone over 10,000 lives were saved by the crews of the ASR aircraft and HSLs who faced enemy action and all weathers to uphold their pledge that ‘The Sea Shall Not Have Them’.
Flight Lieutenant Wales (perhaps better known as His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales) serves in RAF Search and Rescue and will co-pilot Sea King helicopters as part of a four-man crew based at RAF Valley in Anglesey on the north-west coast of Wales. It is very apt therefore that as well as inviting colleagues from RAF Valley to the Wedding, it was arranged for an SAR Helicopter to fly above the Prince when he and his new bride drove from Buckingham Palace to the delight of the crowds in an open top Aston Martin with the rear number plate which read JU5T WED.

To commemorate a Lifetime of Service by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness Prince Philip, five special coins have been released on behalf of Ascension Island, the British Indian Ocean Territory, the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands and the Isle of Man.
The year 2011 celebrates not only the 85th Birthday of Queen Elizabeth II but also the 90th Birthday of Prince Philip. The couple married on 20th November 1947 at Westminster Abbey and have four children, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Family life has been an essential support to both the Queen and Prince Philip and the family usually spend Christmas together at Sandringham in Norfolk.
2012 will see the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II which commemorates sixty years as Monarch. Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in Westminster Abbey on 2nd June 1953 and during her reign she has seen Twelve Prime Ministers, Six Archbishops, Five Popes and Five Wars and Conflicts. She has attended 256 official overseas visits to over 129 different countries and she is the first British Monarch to visit China. She witnessed the Space landings in 1969 and has seen the rise of the digital age – television, mobile communication and internet.
- The Ascension Island coin features a central design of the initials ‘E & P’ within a decorative circular shape and depicting a crown above each letter.
- The British Indian Ocean Territory coin depicts a central design of the initials ‘E & P’ with a crown above the letters and features a border design of a cross and anchor.
- The Falkland Islands coin features a central design of the initials ‘E & P’. The image above the letter ‘E’ is taken from Her Majesty’s United Kingdom Arms of Dominion and the image above the letter ‘P’ is taken from the Duke of Edinburgh’s Coat of Arms.
- The Isle of Man coin features a central portrait design of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip and depicts two Union Flags and the Royal Coat of Arms.
- The South Georgia & South Sandwich Islands coin features a portrait of Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh in 1947.
All coins have been approved by Buckingham Palace and each obverse bears a fine effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS. |

Pobjoy Mint is excited to produce and release a commemorative coin on behalf of the Falkland Islands which is one of the first to celebrate the Royal Wedding.
On 16th November 2010, Clarence House made the announcement advising that Prince William, the eldest son of Prince Charles and second in line to the throne, had become engaged to his long-term girlfriend Miss Catherine Middleton. William and Catherine met whilst students at the University of St Andrews and, following months of speculation, Prince William asked Catherine to marry him in October 2010 whilst on holiday in Kenya but the public announcement was only made public once family and friends were informed. The fact that Prince William had proposed using the same ring that was given by his father to Diana added to the romance of it all.
The wedding itself will take place on 29th April 2011 and this date has been declared a public holiday in the United Kingdom.

Primates are our closest cousins and to highlight the plight of some of the endangered primates, Pobjoy Mint has issued a series of six coins on behalf of the Bank of Sierra Leone which feature some of these amazing animals.
There are many different species of Primates in the world, including apes, monkeys and humans! Many primate species are now in danger of extinction, primarily caused by deforestation and hunting. Many of these primates remain a constant fascination to people across the world.
Each coin in this series of six coins shows a different species and the complete set spans three years.
- The Capuchin Monkey (2009) – named after an order of Friars because of their appearance, these small monkeys only reach a height of 22 inches with tails that are just as long.
- The Diana Monkey (2009) – generally black or dark grey, this primate has a crescent shaped browband which gave it its name, since it was believed to resemble the bow of the goddess Diana.
- The Orangutan (2010) – this reddish-brown primate is among the most intelligent of the species. The name comes from the Malay words ‘orang’ (man) and ‘(h)utan’ (forest) translating as ‘man of the forest’. The largest males have an arm span of about 2 metres.
- The Chimpanzee (2010) – the Chimpanzee is the closest living relative to humans. They are extremely intelligent and make tools to help them acquire food.
- The Agile Gibbon (2011) – this Gibbon, like all gibbons, is tailless. They predominantly live in rain forests and very rarely venture to the ground. Their long arms mean they can swing from branch to branch very quickly.
- The Mountain Gorilla (2011) – this gorilla is highly social and lives in groups held together by long-term bonds between the males and females. Groups can vary from five to thirty with the dominant silverback as the leader. |

1808 East India Copper 10 Cash Recovered From The Wreck of The Admiral Gardner. All in general "submerged for nearly 200 years" condition. Each purchase is for a single coin and I'll send the best quality remaining.
The Admiral Gardner was an East India Company Ship taking supplies and a large consignment of freshly minted, at the Soho Mint in Birmingham, East India Company Coins to India. She came to grief and sank off The Goodwin Sands, Cornwall on 25th January 1809. For a long time she was visited by divers with salvage legally taken but she became protected in 1973 and coins can no longer legally be brought to the service without licence. This batch of coins was obtained by a licenced diver. A true "shipwreck" coin! |
